AGCup Preview: Emirates v Hatta

30/09/2016

Emirates coach Klaus-Dieter Pagels is keen to guide his side to their first win of the season in all competitions as they host Hatta in Round 3 of the Arabian Gulf Cup at 5:15pm today. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the German coach said: “We lost to Sharjah in the Cup and we have two defeats against Al Ahli and Al Ain in the League, but this game against Hatta will be different because of the format of the competition and the opportunity it offers to teams like us to claim some silverware. We have to focus on the game and getting a win, because it would certainly lift the atmosphere in the dressing room and boost our confidence going forward.”

In the opposing dugout, Hatta Head Coach Waleed Obaid is hoping to instill a winning mentality in his side by getting their first victory under their belt. “Teams that get used to losing continue losing, and teams that become accustomed to winning continue winning. We need to get our first win and then we can move onwards and upwards from there, putting together a winning streak. We need to go into the Emirates game with a positive attitude and high level of concentration to achieve what we want to,” the Emirati coach said at his pre-match press conference. Having only scored one goal in the Cup and none in the League so far this season, Waleed Obaid is hoping to exploit Emirates’ leaky back line to improve on their tally, saying: “Our teams are going through similar circumstances at the moment but we need to take advantage of their defensive mistakes to find the net, because our scoring record so far this season has not been good.”
